Controller (Real Estate)

What you'll do:

• Manage daily operations of the accounting department, including treasury, revenue recognition, IPP real estate assets, development projects, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, tax compliance, and real estate SPV & fund accounting.
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and financial reporting for individual properties, companies, and investment vehicles.
• Collaborate with development and property management teams to efficiently capture construction and property activity in the accounting system.
• Prepare property, construction, and corporate budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
• Compile and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage investor relations including compliance with KYC/AML procedures.
• Oversee calculation, allocation, and distribution of promotes, carried interest, and other incentive compensation structures.
• Coordinate annual audits and preparation and filing of all tax returns.
• Implement internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Lead and train accounting team members.

What you bring:

• Canadian CPA designation is required.
• An undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business, or Accounting from a top-tier University is required.
• Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience with a real estate development firm is required.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and Canadian ASPE rules is required.
• Experience with Yardi is preferred.
• Understanding of corporate and partnership accounting, tax, and financial reporting for real estate companies.
• Experience overseeing annual audits and tax preparation.
• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Thorough knowledge of MS Office including advanced Excel skills.
• Leadership skills managing an accounting team.
