Our client is seeking a Senior Sanctions Advisor to join their Financial Crimes team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the global stage, supporting Canadian businesses in over 200 markets worldwide.

As part of a dedicated and inclusive team, you will be at the forefront of managing financial crimes risks, including Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, Corruption & Bribery, Sanctions and External Fraud. Your expertise will be instrumental in enhancing operational procedures and optimising monitoring and controls. What you'll do:

As a Senior Sanctions Advisor, your role will be pivotal in managing financial crimes risks within our client's operations. You will be responsible for leading investigative due diligence assignments on Sanctions risk exposure in financial transactions, as well as assessing Sanctions controls and broader risk management culture. Your expertise will also be crucial in developing and enhancing operational procedures related to Sanctions. In addition, you will collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Compliance and Business teams to increase the effectiveness of sanctions due diligence processes.

  • Educate and provide guidance on local and global best practices pertaining to Sanctions regimes.
  • Leverage knowledge of products and internal network to build a risk-aware culture.
  • Independently lead complex financial crimes risk analysis for business transactions.
  • Review and assess information from various sources to identify financial crimes risks.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams to conduct in-depth due diligence.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding the company's approach to managing financial crimes risks.
  • Stay abreast of trends and best practices in financial crimes risk management.
  • Proactively identify process efficiencies and lead process optimization initiatives.
  • Advise on the implementation of the company's Financial Crimes program.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Senior Sanctions Advisor role brings a wealth of experience in Sanctions compliance and enhanced due diligence. You have a deep understanding of Sanctions regulations and are adept at designing and implementing effective Sanctions Compliance Programs. Your strong relationship-building skills enable you to effectively engage with customers and stakeholders. Furthermore, your exceptional communication skills allow you to articulate complex legal and compliance issues clearly and effectively.

  • University Degree in Law, Business Administration, Accounting, Political Science or other related field.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in Sanctions compliance and/or enhanced due diligence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Sanctions regulations and best practices related to the design and implementation of Sanctions Compliance Programs.
  • Proven ability to build and manage relationships with customers and stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to adapt general risk management principles to unique transactions or customer needs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
