An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Controls Testing Specialist to join a highly respected financial institution in Toronto, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of risk management. This position offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact by ensuring that control activities are robust, effective, and aligned with regulatory standards.

What you'll do:

  • Lead or support the execution of control tests designed to assess both the design and operational effectiveness of various control activities within the organisation.
  • Work closely with business partners to review documentation and gather essential information required for thorough control testing procedures.
  • Proactively manage multiple testing activities and schedules simultaneously, ensuring all deliverables are completed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Analyse complex data sets to identify emerging issues and trends across the Canadian controls environment, utilising tools such as SQL when appropriate.
  • Execute comprehensive control testing across manual and automated controls, leveraging your technical skills to query data efficiently.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with both first line business teams and second line risk partners to facilitate seamless communication.
  • Assist in preparing clear reports that communicate testing results effectively to business partners and senior stakeholders for informed decision-making.
  • Document findings from control tests in a concise manner suitable for stakeholder review, ensuring transparency and clarity throughout the process.
  • Support the creation of briefing materials for senior management meetings by summarising key outcomes from control testing initiatives.
  • Remain current on industry best practices, regulatory guidelines, and evolving risk management trends by participating in ongoing learning opportunities.

What you bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree coupled with at least three years’ experience in financial consumer compliance monitoring, auditing, or assessing processes and their controls within regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Canadian regulators such as OSFI, OPC, FCAC as well as regulations applicable to credit card businesses.
  • Proficiency in preparing high-quality business documents including presentations for leadership forums, briefing memos, and detailed reports.
  • Solid analytical abilities paired with investigative skills that enable you to distil complex information into clear narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines in a dynamically changing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster positive relationships with colleagues at all organisational levels along with effective conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Sound judgement regarding escalation protocols—knowing when issues require attention from appropriate stakeholders before they escalate further.
  • Basic data analysis experience using scripting languages such as SQL or Python; comfort working with cloud-based data structures like Snowflake is advantageous.
  • A proven track record of delivering timely results through collaborative efforts within cross-functional teams focused on continuous improvement.
